To help the world’s automotive industry create products with higher quality, a set of standards regarding quality management system for automotive industry only has been established which is the IATF 16949:2016 standard.
To understand what the IATF 16949 standard is, it should be noticed that IATF used to be known as ISO/TS 16949 of International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Then, its name was officially changed into IATF 16949 as it is today by IATF - International Automotive Task Force, and JAMA - Japan Automobile Manufacturer Association. You can briefly understand that IATF 16949 is a standard of QMS (quality management system) which is primarily applicable to automotive industry, as it was officially announced in 2016, it was called IATF 16949:2016.
This set of standards can be applied by enterprises, organizations producing and supplying component parts, details or materials used for manufacturing and assembling automobiles, including services like heat treating, painting, plating, welding, finishing surface, or designing according to the customer’s requirement. In principle, this set of standards is applicable to all "on car - on road" parts.
IATF 16949:2016 is a breakthrough. Its target customers are the world's leading automobile manufacturers. IATF 16949: 2016 version was compiled from specific requirements gathered from top automobile manufacturers in the world such as Renault Group, FCA Italy SpA, BMW, Ford Motor Company, FCA US LLC (Chrysler Group Former LLC), General Motors, PSA Group.
Similar to the previous ISO/TS 16949, IATF 16949:2016 standard has been created and developed on the basis of ISO 9001: 2015, QS 9001 and VDA 6.1 along with serveral requirements of automakers. Some of the improvements are that in accordance with each provision of ISO 9001: 2015, IATF 16949: 2016 adds other provisions with a much higher level of difficulty than ISO 9001: 2015 to meet strict requirements regarding the quality of the automobile parts manufacturing industry.
With these improvements, the IATF 16949: 2016 Standard desires to be a quality management system that aims to continually improve, prevent errors, and reduce volatility and waste in the supply chain. .
This article of IATF16949: 2016 wants to reduce and eliminate overlapping assessments and give organizations in the automotive industry a common approach to build a quality management system.
1: ISO / TS 16949 standard expires after September 14th , 2018

3: Conversions to IATF 16949: 2016 can be conducted from January 1st 2017.
1: The rules for the 5 new tools are effective from January 1st 2017, including accessory parts.
2: The assessment scope of manufacturing facilities should include automotive customers who do not require IATF (or ISO / TS).
3: It is necessary for both organizations certifying CB and clients to add a provision in the contract that allows the contract between two parties to be extended until the requirements for the new certification body are completed.
4: The customer is requested to provide information about the personnel of the main facility and locations supporting the evaluation planning process to assessment organizations.
Before implementing IATF 16949: 2016, it is needed for enterprises to already have ISO 9001: 2015 and IATF 16949.
1: Pre-audit according to IATF 16949 version 2016

4: Monitoring & updating progress.
5: Enterprises need to interact regularly with CB certification organizations.
6: Internally evaluate according to IATF 16949 & have 30-60 days to adjust unappropriate points .
