Pre-audit service to TAPA Standard - The Transported Asset Protection Association

Being stolen during transportation is one of the greatest risks to providers of transportation services, and manufacturers who trade high value goods since when the cargo is stolen, it will cause dramatic losses to that subjects. Therefore, the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) was established to prevent and solve that problem.

The Transported Asset Protection Association

Transported Property Protection Association (TAPA)

The risk of theft of goods not only comes from single criminal groups but also criminal organizations. Nowadays, these organizations are increasingly expanding their scope of activities globally and so as to achieve their goals, they even use violence towards vehicles, facilities and people. With the desire to update the latest information and preventive measures to ensure the safety of commodities in the supply chain, TAPA pre-audit was born.

The TAPA standard stands for the Transported Asset Protection Association. This is an organization established by security experts, representing businesses to fight against the crime of theft during the transport of goods. TAPA members are manufacturers, logistics providers, freight forwarders, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders around the globe. They all participate in TAPA with a common goal of preventing, minimizing the risks and losses that can may be encountered when engaging in the international supply chain.

TAPA's mission is to help its members protect their assets, minimize the loss of goods by developing and applying global security standards, research and findings on practical security in many areas such as technology, education, trademark, collaborative management, and the identification of proactive trends of crime and security threats in the supply chain.

After undergoing rigorous evaluation and completing procedures, TAPA Certificates will be issued to businesses that meet the highest safety requirements in control, management, maintenance, and the storage of high value goods. This certification is the most prestigious one in the field of safety.

Currently, according to statistics, the number of members of TAPA certification organization has reached more than 700. This organization has also presented in many countries around the globe, including the world's leading brands of consumer goods as well as logistics and transportation providers, law enforcement agencies (LEAs), insurance companies and other trade associations.

TAPA standards

  • Requirements for maritime transport security 2014 - 2014 FSR Freight Security Requirement (FSR)

The Maritime Transportation Security (FSR) requirement sets the basic standards to help units that preserve, store and transport high-cost assets to perform their best in security and industry. TAPA members should select suppliers who meet FSR transport security requirements.

Certification of transport security requirements does not apply to all businesses but only to each facility. To achieve TAPA Certification, all businesses must obtain FSR certification through an audit process approved by TAPA-approved auditors.

  • Trucking Security Requirements 2014 (TSR)

The TSR sets minimum security requirements for the transport of goods that are high value theft targeted (HVTT). The truck security requirements (TSR) can be certified on one of three levels: 1, 2 and 3, of which level 1 has the highest security level, monitoring the security level of the vehicles. These are voluntary standards, not a part of the formal certification process, but ultizing them is necessary step in the relationship between the shipper and the carrier.

As noted by IIS - TAPA's incident information system, more than 85% of cargo theft cases in North America are employing trucks to transport. Goods owners and shipping companies must work closely together to ensure the security of the goods supply chain.

Both FSR and TSR certification only address minimum security requirements. In some geographic areas, goods that are high value theft targeted (HVTT) may require higher security standards.

  • TAPA's air freight security standards - TAPA Air Cargo Security Standards (TACSS)

This standard has been created to ensure security and safety of cargo during air transport, from taking off to arriving and airport-related facilities. TACSS has integrated security solutions for aviation, including the best control methods of the appropriate fields and programs. TACSS is designed to deal with the risks and dangers of goods, namely the theft of goods and the use of goods for the purpose of terrorism.
